Superfoods: Blueberries
A little bit of History:
Blueberries are in season between May and October and are native to North America. Their cultivation did not begin until the 20th century and they were first sold in 1916
Benefits:
Blueberries have powerful antioxidant properties and are the best fruit to eat when it come to neutralising free radicals in the body. These berries not only protect your heart, your eyes and your brain, they also rejuvenate your skin. The slightly tough skin of the blueberry is full of antioxidants that will protect you against cancer and it tannins will create healthier elimination of waste from your body
Tips:
- You don’t need to wash wild or organic blueberries except to remove any dirt and grit
- To create a healthy meal at any time of the day, make a fruit salad using bananas, blueberries and pears
- Start the day with a refreshing bunch of blueberries added to your morning bowl of yoghurt

Yum. I LOVE blueberries. For years, I’ve been eating them every morning with bran flakes. And yes, great with yogurt and granola.

I’ve only recently tried them out (a year or so) but I love them now. I also like adding them on breakfast protein pancakes 🙂
